Infrastructure Architect

This position is responsible for driving architectural decisions and detailed design activities for GID’s Infrastructure team.
- Provide technical vision and inform strategy across business and technology – seen as an expert within IT peers at Gap and GID.
- Provide subject matter expertise on most if not all of the primary elements of GID’s systems infrastructure (Linux / UNIX, Oracle RDBMS, J2EE application servers, Networking, SAN/NAS, etc)
- Translate functional and service-level requirements in to well-documented technical designs
- Partner with technical managers and project managers to develop work plans that deliver implementations based on documented designs
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in infrastructure best-practices to make informed recommendations for new tools and technologies
- Contribute to the IT budgeting process by reviewing long term strategic technology plans and business growth expectations, and translating these into high-level system requirements and deployment strategies
- Some level of “hands-on” participation may be required, including highly technical problem solving, assisting with complex build activities, and/or performing technical audits of work done by GID staff and vendors.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant experience required
- 9 or more years of IT experience, and at least 3-5 years of leading IT infrastructure design & implementation of large-scale, high-volume systems infrastructures
- Has multiple specialized areas of technical expertise in the design, implementation and management of scalable, highly-available systems
- Experience in an e-commerce or other high-transaction volume, web-based systems in a hosted environment
- Hands-on experience in multiple of the following technologies:
- Enterprise-class Java application servers, such as Websphere or JBoss
- Oracle RDBMS in a RAC environment
- Linux / UNIX and server hardware
- Data center networking, including routing, switching and load balancing
- SAN / NAS technologies
- Experience with Agile or lightweight development methodologies a plus
- Has participated in significant projects & successful large scale deployments – projects that have 7-8 figure budgets and involve dozens of staff.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering presentations to senior executives
- Possesses comprehensive technical knowledge and organizational skills to oversee, coordinate, and participate in highly complex projects with high visibility and high impact on the business.
- Demonstrates creative thinking innovative approaches using multiple technologies – and works to clarify technical ambiguity
