Zimbio is an online magazine publisher based in San Carlos, CA and backed by Menlo Ventures and Draper Richards. We’re looking for an Operations Engineer to join our team. About us: Zimbio.com is an online magazine focused on popular culture. We’re one of the 200 most popular websites in the United States, with over 13 million unique visitors each month. We're growing both in web traffic and staff and are seeking talented people who will contribute to the next stage of our growth. Our business is simple: We blend original, in-house and freelanced content with user generated contributions to form an overall informative and entertaining experience for the reader. We’ve built proprietary technology to help us automate and optimize portions of the publishing process. Our office is a casual place where good ideas and strong opinions are pretty much mandatory. Responsibilities: * Help managing Zimbio's data center operations and the 24x7 operations of Zimbio.com * Performance tuning & debugging, especially for response time of pages * Help in database installation & administration, specifically with Mysql * Help implementing fail-over and back-up strategies * Help implementing monitoring strategies * Help monitoring and tuning crawling and indexing from search engines * Help in managing our development and QA environments * Manage office networking Qualifications: * 1-5 years of experience in team-based 24X7 production data center operations * A curious mind; excitement to learn new things & work in a team environment * Technical skills and debugging experience on a Linux System * System administration and operations experience, including networks, load balancers, switches, DNS maintenance, web-servers (apache, nginx), systems monitoring tools(nagios, cacti), fail-over and backup solutions, software release Management, configuration management, and maintenance of SVN servers. * Database installations & administration, specifically with Mysql is a plus * Capacity to design and develop tools and scripts for manual and automated processes using shell scripts * A strong educational background in computer science or engineering We are offering a competitive base salary, health/dental/vision benefits, and stock options.
