UNIX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

Responsible for Operations support of production applications. Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining UNIX workstations and servers, including Web servers, in support of business processing requirements. Performs software installations and upgrades to UNIX operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum level of performance. Ensures UNIX workstations/server integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through off-site storage and retrieval services. Conducts routine hardware and software audits of UNIX workstations/servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines. Build strong working relationships with coworkers, direct reports (if applicable), customers (internal and external), and company management.
The candidate will have experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Open source based Linux systems and be familiar with specific configuration components of Linux. This position will perform maintenance of existing systems, install new systems and be involved in a significant deployment of CentOS Linux. The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills, be able to self-manage complex assignments, and be capable of documenting processes and methods.
- Experience with Linux
- Experience with gcc and open source software
- Experience with x86 and AMD based hardware
- Experience with RAID strategies and implementations
- Ability to build, manage, install and remove RPMs
- Ability to configure TCP/IP, network interfaces, and IP security
- Ability to install and configure Linux
- Experience in shell scripting. Ability to automate routine tasks
- Familiarity with Apache/Tomcat and common web technologies
- Strong reading, writing, and communication skills with customer focused attitude towards work.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team dynamic and self manage tasks
- Must successfully pass a background check
