CBS Interactive is seeking a Perl Software Engineer to take an important role in the ongoing development and maintenance of a variety of products and services. He or she will work with a small and close-knit team of engineers who are passionate about providing high quality products and services.  The culture is informal, intense, and rewarding for the right individual. The team maintains and operates the products and services they develop, so pager duty is part of the job. You must be able to multi-task, communicate effectively, and meet deadlines. Key skills include: thorough understanding of Perl programming with a familiarity with of web technologies (mySQL/Apache/CSS/Javascript etc). Build strong relationships with coworkers, direct reports (if applicable), customers (internal and external), and company management.

* 4 years of programming experience, including 2 years with perl * Experience with python is desired * Understanding of A/B performance testing is desired * Familiarity with regular expressions for document  parsing is desired * Experience with XML and Perl XML libraries is a plus * Experience with search indexes (Lucene, Solr) and databases (MySQL) is a plus * Linux and Apache administration experience is a plus * Experience with javascript, ajax and web front end technologies is a plus * Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast- paced environment * Excellent problem-solving, prioritization and organizational skills * Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and experience * Understanding of high- availability web site operations and willingness to cover shifts on pager-duty is required * Must successfully pass a background check
