Senior Manager BI Yield Management
San Francisco, CA
Do you have a proven record of thought leadership in Business Intelligence? Have you spearheaded your organization’s efforts to define operating metrics, analyze performance trends, and structure its data? Do you combine solid technical ability—Microsoft Excel, SQL, Microstrategy, etc.—with impressive communication skills that allow you to contribute at every level of a quantitative business exercise? And does the challenge of working at one of the largest media organizations in the world excite you?
Qualifications:
If so, please consider applying for the position of Senior Manager Business Intelligence in CBS Interactive’s Yield Management group.
Yield Management brings analyses and insights to people at all levels of the CBS Interactive organization. Our roots go back to the beginnings of online media, where we pioneered some of the first ad delivery and inventory models. Our responsibilities have grown over the years to encompass pricing and a broader concept of yield management. Today we frequently function as an internal consulting group, focusing on a host of revenue optimization strategies. These strategies are as varied as page design, media pricing & packaging, sales compensation and corporate strategy, to name a few.
To the applicant, the role offers the following:
Analytic Impact
- You will drive reports (requirements, creation, presentation) for use throughout the CBSi organization—from tactical data feeds used to optimize page revenue, to high-level dashboards viewed by top execs. Yield Management provides insights across a broad spectrum of strategic problems: pricing, inventory forecasts, product packaging, revenue mix, advertiser segmentation, to name just a few. Your work will make CBSi a smarter business.
Leadership & Vision
- You will lead a small, agile team in charge of Yield metrics within CBSi. Yield Management oversees a broad spectrum of internal data, and is responsible for boiling down literally billions of datapoints into actionable reports. We need an individual who not only understands the various tables and views, but understands what needs to be done organizationally—in terms of process change, resource requests, 3rd party tools, etc.—to best leverage the information within.
Dynamic Workplace
- You will work in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment. Online Media is a new industry with a unique set of analytic problems: there are no cookie-cutter solutions to the challenges we face. Every project will require a fresh application of your initiative, intelligence, and imagination.
Responsibilities include:
- Thought Leadership: You have led efforts to make your organization a smarter, more data-driven business. You’ve been handed ownership/oversight of amorphous data and put structure around it, creating maintainable infrastructures that support impactful reports.
- Technical/Analytic abilities: You must be able to hit the ground running with spreadsheets (VBA, pivot tables, etc.) and SQL scripts. On these two technologies, members of Yield Management are expected to be among the most knowledgeable in the company. You should have exposure to sophisticated modeling/simulation/regression-type data analysis.
- Communication: You must feel comfortable presenting your proposals/reports to different constituents—particularly to non- technical people who have no knowledge (or interest) in the internal workings of your data. You should be able to whip up a PowerPoint on C-level reporting strategy/resource allocation as easily as you write VBA macros.
- Initiative: You must be a self-starter. This role does not have rigid boundaries, either in terms of responsibilities or analytic “territory”; the candidate that thrives is the candidate who demands that their work has impact.
Desired Experience:
5 to 7 years of related experience is preferred, ideally including managing people.
The candidate should have a record of thought leadership in the Business Intelligence space, as well as demonstrated mastery of MS Excel, SQL, and other BI tools.
Education Requirements:
BS/BA degree (or equivalent training and experience) in math, science, or engineering, or proven track record in a quantitative/problem-solving environment. Advanced degrees are a plus. Successful candidates in the past have come from Economics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, and Management Consulting; however, applicants from all disciplines are welcome.
Must pass a background check
