About this Position:

Assetmap is a San Francisco-based startup that helps people discover the assets that exist within their communities in order to more effectively accomplish individual and shared goals.

Whether it's nonprofits in Uganda or attendees at a mobile tech conference, we think it should be easier for people to share their talents and resources with the individuals and organizations they care about, and discover the talents, expertise and other assets to which their networks give them access. We’re looking for an expert web application developer who will lead the design and implementation of Assetmap’s directory tools, aimed at events, alumni communities, and more. Specifically, we’re looking for someone who has a strong background in Ruby on Rails or other similar frameworks.

If you’re a motivated, self-starting, code ninja who enjoys taking on challenging, collaborative web projects in a small, fast-paced startup environment, then keep reading.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Lead Developer will design, code and maintain Assetmap’s lead directory tool product. They will need to code both the user interface and server-side components.
  • He or she will work with product and operations teams in all aspects of the development lifecycle, including requirements review, design, coding, implementation and testing optimization.
  • This tool will also have heavy integration with the leading social network APIs (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc). The developer should be comfortable operating with or learning these APIs.
  • This is a serious gig. We’re looking for a jack-of-all trades who is ready to pour their all into a dynamic, young startup team.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Significant experience architecting and implementing applications using a well-known web framework (Ruby on Rails, CakePHP, etc)
  • Familiarity with one or more JavaScript frameworks/toolkits (ex: jQuery, script.aculo.us, Dojo, YUI, Google Web Toolkit, etc)
  • Significant experience with software web development in HTML, Javascript, CSS and in Web Scripting Languages (PHP, Ruby, Perl, etc)
  • Firm grasp of MySQL and familiarity with database abstraction libraries
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills in English

Compensation:

Equity plus Salary

Desired Perspective:

  • Be Curious
  • Be Passionate (about what doesn’t particularly matter)
  • Be Committed
  • Be Ready to Kick It
