Site Reliability Engineer / Toolsmith -

This position will use all your abilities and experience in Systems Administration, Web Operations, Software engineering to and that's exactly what your looking for!  You will impact all these sectors at our tiny 30 person startup and be challenged and rewarded for it.

"Super Startup" is hiring a systems-minded engineer that hates doing things twice - to join our early-stage fast paced startup in order to build the tools and platforms that power our web applications that are used by millions everyday as the undisputed leader in our marketspace. Your top-notch work will surely be missed by your current coworkers, but your experience with rapid development and agile processes will be welcomed with open arms at your new position with us. We are working on the bleeding edge of data storage and analysis (tens of millions of users daily) as well as distributed systems (Hadoop, HBase), and you're going to help us do it. You will also be a creating and coding various tools and other new programs that ease scalability and process. You should have the capacity and desire to contribute accordingly.


Responsibilities:

- Responsible for architecture and design of our massive data storage and analytics platform
- Lead by example by your contributions to core open source software projects like Hadoop and HBase
- Writing effective application code as well as unit, functional, and regression testing and the documentation to support the work.
- Hands-on work in the core platform development process as well as end-to-end planning with operations and frontend staff.
- Planning and driving core technology decisions that span multiple datacenters and a vast array of products
- Driving product to market with Agile practices and short release cycles

Qualifications:

- Extensive experience with at least two of the following: C, C++, Java
- Thorough skills in designing and implementing distributed applications and systems
- 3-5 years of experience in at least one major scripting language: Ruby, Python, Perl, etc. PHP a plus.
- Intimate knowledge of Linux or another UNIX-like operating system as a primary development platform
- Previous professional experience in a 5-10+ person development team
- Experience or familiarity with Agile/team development process
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
