SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

We have an immediate opening for a front-end engineer to create and maintain the user interface for www.virgincharter.com. Work with product managers, marketing, and other business stakeholders to help shape the user experience. Collaborate with software architects and engineers to construct innovative and efficient web technologies. Maintain features throughout their lifecycle including design, development, quality assurance, and production support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Work with product development and marketing to identify user needs
•    Propose user experiences that address user needs creatively and efficiently
•    Implement rough cut prototypes as well as production code under varying time constraints
•    Work from Photoshop comps to create standards compliant HTML & CSS accessible to both search engines and people with disabilities
•    Refactor existing code with an emphasis on DRY
•    Understand and contribute toward the Virgin Charter brand identity
•    Separation of concerns both in an MVC framework and in front-end technologies
•    Build features using progressive enhancement to ensure optimal user experience across platforms
•    Use version control to manage concurrent software development

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Skills & Tools
o    Standards compliant HTML & CSS
o    Maintaining low page weight performance
o    Knowledge of typesetting concepts such as a baseline grid
o    Unobtrusive JavaScript & jQuery (or similar JavaScript library)
•    2-4 years of relevant web development experience
•    Bachelors degree with excellent academic credentials
•    Solid understanding of the lifecycle of web development (IA/VD/Development)
•    Familiarity or experience working in an agile / XP shop
•    Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
•    Confidence in your user experience knowledge and ability to advocate for the user
•    Excellent written and oral and communication skills
•    Ability to work in a fast paced and unstructured environment
•    Ability to work with 3rd party designers / developers
•    Passion for the Open Web and standards based development
