Technical Operations Capacity Planner

The Operations Capacity Planner is responsible for the planning and forecasting of capacity needs as it relates to running the business and product releases. The position of Operations Capacity Planner requires a sound knowledge of Operations and IT systems and database administration, statistical analysis and process engineering within companies in the e-commerce or internet infrastructure space. In addition, the candidate must have a sound background in management.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop models for all aspects of the operations organization including server capacity (CPU, IO, Connections), datacenter capacity (Rack space, Power, Floor space, Network Ports), Project forecasting (URL request, DB Queries)
  • Support both Production, QA and Development as it relates to capacity planning
  • Develop key metrics to track capacity to goal
  • Conduct weekly meeting covering the key metrics with heads of QA, Development and Operations
  • Track minutes of downtime caused by Capacity shortages or issues within control
  • Track capaital saving due to capacity recommendations and architectural proposals
  • Assist with new technology evaluations as it relates to key capacity metrics
  • Assist with building out a capacity tools infrastructure and data marts shared by other teams
  • Recommending, setting and maintaining thresholds - systems, database
  • Assist in building automation tools to support the capacity processes - monitoring, data extraction etc.
  • Contribute to the integration of Capacity monitoring for theNOC and other teams
  • Support the annual budget forecasts and metrics



Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent
  • 7+ years of high-tech working experience, at least 4+ years working in an Operations environment
  • Proven track record of delivering projects
  • Management knowledge of statistical modeling and analytics
  • Understanding, interpreting and guiding the build of complex statistical Capacity models
  • Communicating complex technical concepts to teams outside of Operations - Customers, Finance in layman's language
  • Working as part of or leading cross-functional teams to build and execute models and process to sustain the function
  • Evidence of Process Training or formal involvement in process execution or management
  • Demonstrated track record of building and managing talented technical teams
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to interface at multiple, variant organizational levels
  • Ability to influence peers, managers, executives, and other teams
  • Applicant must be able to learn technical concepts quickly, and have excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to focus on and manage intense detail for the ongoing improvements, keeping the big organizational picture in mind at all times
  • Working in a highly ambiguous environment where site changes occur daily
