Application Support Engineer

The Site Ops Team has control over the entire LinkedIn site. The work we do has an immediate impact on over 37 million users. We work with new, up and coming technologies first hand in a high-availability, scalable production environment.
As an Applications Support Engineer, you will work on a team dedicated to addressing application performance, monitoring, security, and stability issues. You will work within a cross-functional environment interfacing with Customer Service, Engineering, Infrastructure Ops, Data Services, and Product Management. You will obtain knowledge and understanding of each LinkedIn application layer and grow to be a major contributor in the ongoing development and scalability of our rapidly growing Java/J2EE application environment.
Responsibilities
-Categorize, prioritize, and resolve software application issues, in conjunction with our customer service, software development, and operations organizations
-Gain deep application-level knowledge of back-end systems architecture to sustain our high standards of availability and performance
-Function as 3rd tier escalation resource for application issues
Requirements
-At least 3 years of relevant industry experience, preferably working for a leading software/web 2.0 company.
-Understanding of web-based architecture with knowledge of Java
-Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
-Passion to grow your career with a leading Web 2.0 company
-Familiarity with standard incident handling / support processes, including ticketing or CRM systems such as Request Tracker, Siebel, or Salesforce
-Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to your work that emphasizes strong problem solving skills.
-Strong history of achievement, both academically and in your career.
-Knowledge of and/or experience with Web Services Standards (SOAP, XML, WSDL, UDDI)
-Experience troubleshooting, administrating, and testing web-based applications.
-Familiarity with J2EE Application Servers (Tomcat, Weblogic, Websphere).
-Experience with monitoring tools (Sitescope, Nagios, etc.)
-Knowledge of Unix/Solaris systems administration fundamentals
Education
BS degree with emphasis on Computer Science or related area from a leading University.
