Operations Engineer needed for Cambridge MA
Cambridge, MA
The Application Virtualization team (formerly the SoftGrid team) located in Cambridge, MA is looking for an Operations Engineer to develop and run a lab environment that makes it easy to do efficient and effective engineering. Microsoft acquired Softricity, Inc in July 2006…a Boston based company with the industry-leading application virtualization solution that enables applications to be streamed to users and run locally without the need to install or uninstall. That’s right…you can stream an application over the network and run it on your local machine without having to run an install, without risking conflicts with existing installed apps, etc. This technology has a huge impact on the cost of maintaining the application lifecycle in the enterprise - but has obvious applicability in other areas for the future.
We are seeking an experienced Operations Engineer with a passion for hardware technology and the proven ability to independently deliver moderate to highly complex solutions. Responsibilities include efficiently planning and managing our lab resources, providing world class support to development teams working on multiple releases and driving innovation into our infrastructure through the application of new technologies and increased automation. Qualified candidates must possess a strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, multitasking and prioritization skills, the capacity to quickly learn new skills and tools, and the communication skills to establish and manage cross-team relationships and processes.
As a qualified applicant for this position you will have a strong technical background and experience with IT operations, as well as the following experience:
Deep technical knowledge in operations engineering, and the ability to quickly ramp up on new technology
Proven ability to manage several time critical tasks while delivering regular services
A strong track record of generating consensus with multiple stakeholders and business owners
Effective technical communication skills, written and oral
Firsthand experience with continuity planning (disaster recovery, contingency, security planning)
Good computer engineering basics.
Knowledge of and experience using applicable asset management tools required; System Center family tools preferred
Strong knowledge of scripting languages, programming experience is a plus
Other work and educational requirements - 2+ years IT operations experience, and a BA/BS or Masters in Engineering or Computer Science or comparable experience in the software industry.
This is a chance to be a part of highly unique opportunity…application virtualization is a disruptive technology that is going to have long lasting impacts on how enterprises and eventually consumers provision and manage software. The team has the culture of a small startup with the benefits of Microsoft and the opportunity to work in Massachusetts overlooking the Charles River.
Key words for job role definition: lab, operations engineer, operations manager, hardware, 2 years experience, scripting language, batch file automation.
