The Developer Solution Specialist (DSS) role within DPE is focused on driving developer tools revenue within EPG (Global, Strategic, Major and Corporate) accounts. As such, the Developer Solution Specialists (DSS) own the opportunity pipeline and sales execution for Visual Studio Professional, Visual Studio Team System, Team Foundation Server, and MSDN subscriptions. In addition to direct sales engagements with customers, the DSS drives cross group collaboration with a number of Partners and internal resources including members of DPE, ATU’s and STU’s, and the individual from various corporate teams. A DSS is expected to be a local subject matter expert with respect to the application life-cycle management (ALM) and software development life-cycle (SDLC) industries, as well as ALM/SDLC competitors and partners. The DSS is also is also expected to be a local subject matter expert with respect to dev-tools licensing and to partner with the local licensing teams to provide guidance to our customers and the District.
We are seeking an experienced, customer-focused enterprise sales professional to drive ALM/SDLC and dev-tool sales opportunities in named accounts. The core responsibilities of this role include:
Managing the Opportunity Pipeline - develop and maintain an opportunity pipeline to ensure the revenue targets are achieved.
Key activities:
• Identify new opportunities through interaction with customers, partners, and district counterparts
• Ensure all Tier 1 Accounts are properly accounted for with a revenue opportunity
• Properly value new opportunities based on VL data points - VL levels, expiration dates, price lists, and CPS’
• Accurately assess solution sales milestones and targeted closure dates
• Accurately report opportunity pipeline data to management and accurately enter managed opportunities into internal system.
Managing Opportunities - the DSS is expected to immerse themselves into their opportunities and know everything about the opportunities, including the customer’s needs, volume licensing issues, product fit, obstacles and risks to closing the business, and basically anything else that can affect the business.
Key activities:
• Assume control and responsibility for the opportunity
• Serve as a subject matter expert with respect to MSDN product usage rights and licensing
• Ensure post sales activities such as registration and activation occur within a timely manner.
To be considered for this role, a candidate must have:
• A minimum of 5 years experience working with ALM/SDLC products, such as Visual Studio Team System, Team Foundation Server, Rational Clear Case, Rational Clear Quest, Mercury Test Director, requirement management tools, other source control / change management tools, and similar products
• A minimum of 7 years experience working in solutions sales or providing technical application development services to Fortune 1,000 enterprises
• Outstanding communication, presentation, teaming, and time management skills
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to overcome ambiguity
In addition, the ideal candidate will posses:
• Strong practical knowledge of .NET and competing technologies
• A degree in computer science with a MBA
• Proven success in solution sales and developing relationships with senior-level business and technical decision makers in Fortune 1,000 enterprises within a specific region.
